Thornlite (Pty) Ltd was established in 1991 after Thornlighting UK disinvested from RSA and appointed Thornlite as one of their two agents in South Africa.
Thornlite continued with its lighting operations predominantly in the projects sector of the lighting market.

Subsequently many thousands of Thornlite luminaires were successfully installed on various projects ranging from major corporate buildings, office parks, shopping complexes, factories and educational institutions.

Thorn luminaires are manufactured to SABS standards in an ISO 9001/9008 rated factory.  Our luminaires utilize only high quality components and lamps and as such Thornlite is reputed for reliability and excellent after-sales service.
Imported lighting products which cannot be manufactured in RSA are being imported from reputable and established manufacturers abroad. Custom made and special lighting products are outsourced locally to Thornlite designs by specialist manufacturing facilities.

The introduction of high quality Linear LED technology from Europe in 2015 created vast opportunities for local luminaire manufacturers, opening up an entirely new era in lighting.
Thornlite seized the opportunity and developed a unique design of linear LED channel luminaires which were released on the RSA market in early 2016. Other Linear LED luminaires were since developed and manufactured to complete the range required for new building projects or upgrading of previous technologies.

LED development is still very dynamic and it is an advantage for luminaire designs to be flexible enough to render it “future smart”

Thornlite recognises that a high level of research and development is a prerequisite in luminaire design and manufacturing in order to offer the market the benefits of the latest in LED technology at all times.

New types of luminaires are continuously being developed by Thornlite and these will be offered to the market on an ongoing basis.
